Cane Drivers
The Cane Drivers are a group of students ages 13 -19 who currently meet virtually the 2nd Saturday of each month. The activities/events of this group are planned and implemented by the students. Through fun activities this group works on skills such as leadership, self-advocacy, daily living and socialization. Beyond the Recipe Workshop
This weekend workshop is designed for blind/low vision (ages 14-21) sponsored by the National Federation of the Blind of Missouri. “Beyond the Recipe” is an interactive workshop for students with varying cooking experiences. During the workshop students will have the opportunity to participate in different food preparation experiences including: selecting recipes, shopping for recipe ingredients (online & in person), preparing food, problem solving, and preparing & serving a culminating meal for families!
Who should attend? Any blind/low vision student who is between the ages of 14- 21 and is interested in enhancing their independence skills.
How much will it cost? The workshop is at no cost to families; materials, resources, snacks, and all meals are provided.
When is it? This weekend long workshop will be from Friday March 06 to Sunday March 08, 2026.
Where will it be held? 5406 Gemstone Way Columbia, MO 65202 (students will sleep at this location, adult mentors will be on site the entire weekend)
Do I need to bring anything? Students need to bring clothing and personal care items for 2 nights, emergency and/or routine medications (a specific lock box to store medications will be available), and three preselected recipes
