National Federation of the Blind of Missouri

The National Federation of the Blind of Missouri was one of the original seven states that made up the National Federation of the Blind when it was founded in 1940 and has held fast to it’s legacy throughout the existance of the organization. Throughout it’s sixty-seven years of existence the National Federation of the Blind of Missouri and its leaders have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of blind Americans in Missouri and the nation. National Federation of the Blind (National Organization)

With more than 50,000 members, the National Federation of the Blind is the largest and most influential membership organization of blind people in the United States. The NFB improves blind people’s lives through advocacy, education, research, technology, and programs encouraging independence and self-confidence. It is the leading force in the blindness field today and the voice of the nation’s blind. In January 2004 the NFB opened the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute, the first research and training center in the United States for the blind led by the blind.

Wolfner Library

The Wolfner Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is a free library service to anyone in the State of Missouri who is unable to use standard print materials due to a visual or physical disability.

The Wolfner Library is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The library is located in the James C. Kirkpatrick State Information Center, 600 West Main Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. If you need to contact the library, there are several ways you can do so.

JeffTran Handi Wheels

Handi Wheels is a valuable service for those with a disability. The service is offered by Jefferson City Transit Service and is a curb-to-curb service only. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Rehabilitation Services for the Blind

Rehabilitation Services for the Blind (RSB) is a state government agency that provides services to people with varying degrees of visual impairment, ranging from those who cannot read regular print to those who are totally blind.
